Each year, Megan Collins 4th grade class undertakes a Giving Project. Students choose a non-profit organization they would like to support. Ms. Collins gives each student $10 as startup money for a "mini-business" and encourages them to increase the seed money throughout the course of the project. In addition to fundraising, the students thoroughly research the charitable organization and prepare a report to share with the class and at a Giving Project Fair near the end of January. The Giving Project Fair also allows students to showcase their chosen organization and present items for sale. Some of the items students have sold include homemade soaps, sweet treats, face scrub, hot chocolate, scented silly putty and play-doh, 3-D printed boxes, and dog treats. Many students turn the initial $10 into hundreds and even thousands of dollars, of which 100% is donated to their chosen cause.
Recent beneficiaries of the Giving Project include:
- Smile Train
- Mended Little Hearts of Evansville
- Make a Wish Foundation
- It Takes a Village Canine Rescue Center
- Partners in Health
- Holly’s House
- Sweet Sleep
- 911 Gives Hope
- Riley’s Children’s Hospital

Project such as this are a direct reflection of Day School's committment to creating students who are resilient, balanced, globally-minded, entrepreneurial learners ready to become the global leaders of tomorrow.
