Chess Club is an all-inclusive group, welcoming players in Grades 2-12, regardless of skill level. The club meets after school, once a week, and is coached by fifth-grade teacher, Eric Sogard. Chess is not about kings, queens, and rooks, but rather, quadrants and coordinates, thinking strategically, and foreseeing consequences. It's about lines and angles, weighing options, and making decisions.
Chess helps student participants to learn and develop problem-solving skills, planning, patience, focus of thought, and discipline. Players have the option to compete locally and advance to higher level competition.
