Day School Really Is a Family!

Enjoy a heartwarming story of generosity from the Day School family! Written by retired teacher, Harry "Doc" Faulkner.

EDS really is a family! I got to experience this first hand earlier this summer. After teaching at Evansville Day School for 15 years I retired in June 2017. One of the things all of my students knew about me is that I commuted to work on a recumbent bike. Early in the summer of 2018, my bike was stolen. I posted this on Facebook hoping someone would recognize the bike and help me find it. It was never recovered.

Without me knowing, Jordan Lamping 2016 and Reese Lamping 2018 set up a GoFundMe account to raise funds to replace my bike. They presented me with the money in early August and I used it to buy a new recumbent bike in Spokane, WA, and ship it back to Evansville. When they gave me the money it was one of the biggest surprises of my life and one that I will never forget! Many former and current students contributed to the effort, and I thank all of them from the bottom of my heart.

We often talk of the student-teacher connection and how much the faculty helps students at EDS, but this was clearly a case of the students helping the teacher! This is probably the best example of how rewarding it was to me during my fifteen years of teaching and becoming a part of the EDS family! There really is a Day School difference.
