Athletics

At Evansville Day School, we see athletics not only as an opportunity to chase Sectional, Regional, and State titles, but as a critical piece to the holistic educational experience. Students are encouraged to challenge themselves athletically, and in doing so, they learn valuable life skills: grit, perseverance, and collaboration with others.

On the tennis or basketball courts, the soccer fields, and the golf or cross country courses, our students put into action many of the skills developed in the classroom, while uniting as a team to chase a common goal. At EDS, we value resilience as one of our four Portrait of a Graduate pillars and believe it is a key component to success. Playing sports gives our students additional opportunities to develop their resilience through the training and discipline required in athletics.

Evansville Day School is a member school of the Indiana High School Athletic Association and we are therefore eligible to compete in Class 1A postseason play in each of our sports. We also enforce a no-cut policy, believing that all students should be empowered to benefit from the skills athletics can develop.

“At EDS our athletic programs teach more than just how to be a good player. My coaches have taught me to play with more sportsmanship, to control frustration, and what it means to have a group of people band together to strive for one common goal.”  - Jesse Kunst ‘24

“Through participating in both soccer and cheer at Evansville Day School, I have had the opportunity to learn leadership, accountability, and teamwork — each of which I have carried into my personal and academic life. Experiences like cheering at Bankers Life and winning Regionals with the girl's soccer team have created memories that will last a lifetime.”  - Sabina Alcock ‘22
