Day School Eagles relate to new coach Austin Brooks

The Courier Press ran an article about Coach Brooks and the Day School Eagles in their news yesterday. 

"Austin Brooks would lace his sneakers and play basketball with the Day School Eagles when he first took over the program.

It had been awhile since Brooks shot around at his alma mater. He wanted to sense the atmosphere first-hand.

Brooks once was a star at Day School. He’s seventh all-time in career points despite only playing two seasons. The Eagles bonded with their new coach during those pick-up games.

“I think that’s what had them locked in,” Brooks said.

Only one or two of Brooks’ former teachers are still at the school, yet he sees familiar faces every day. His assistant coach Jeremy Willis is the program’s all-time leading scorer at 1,899 points. Justin Hawkins, the junior varsity coach, is No. 2.

All three played between 1995-2005 and understand what it takes to be a student there. They remember the substantial amount of homework students are expected to complete every night, so when practice starts at 3 p.m. the Eagles go to study tables instead of the court..." Read full article
