Day School Student Places 2nd at USI Science Fair
8th Grader, Abi Lowery, placed second at the recent University of Southern Indiana Tri-State Science and Engineering Fair. Abi's project was in the Behavioral Sciences category and was based upon an experiment she conducted regarding human faces and attractiveness. Abi took four male photos and four female photos and, using Photoshop, created a composite female face and a composite male face that was a combination of the four photos. Showing them one actual photo and one composite of each gender, Abi interviewed 30 volunteers (15 male and 15 female), asking them to select the most attractive face. Her findings were very intersting! 63% of male and female participants chose the composite female face over the real female face, while 55% of participants selected the real male face over the composite.
Abi's 2nd place finish earned her a trip to the state finals in Indianapolis on Saturday, April 2 for the chance to win a scholarship. Way to go Abi and good luck in April!
