Eighth Graders Participate in Science of Sound Program

Eighth Graders at Evansville Day School are participating in the Da Vinci Institute Evansville’s STEAMing with Music program at the Children’s Museum of Evansville (cMoe) Thursday and Friday, March 15-16.

As part of the eighth grade curriculum, students take a Design Thinking (DT) course at Day School and have designed exhibits to demonstrate the science of sound.

“An exciting part of Design Thinking is our involvement with the Da Vinci Institute,” said DT course instructor Diana Meddles. “Students have been collaborating in several small groups to incorporate a learning objective in an interactive exhibit.”

The students will display their exhibits at the STEAMing with Music program at cMoe. After a concert by the Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra, area third, fourth, and fifth graders will explore cMoe and play with the activities developed by area middle schoolers. The program is sponsored by the Da Vinci Institute Evansville.

The Da Vinci Institute is a network of Evansville community leaders that facilitates opportunities for creativity and collaboration for K-12 learners so the disciplines of the arts and humanities are vital components of the educational experience and integral with the study of science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM).
