VECTREN PROVIDES GRANT TO DAY SCHOOL FOR ONLINE LEARNING

Evansville Day School students offered courses through Hybrid Learning Consortium

EVANSVILLE – Evansville Day School is excited for our partnership with the Hybrid Learning Consortium (HLC) in the fall, which allows us to expand our course offerings through hybrid (online) learning. In addition to this partnership, we received a grant from The Vectren Foundation to help make this option even more affordable for students. The Foundation has committed a two year grant, totaling $20,000 to underwrite Day School’s annual membership fees and to defray the cost of tuition for students who want to enroll in HLC courses during the funding period.

By Day School offering HLC’s broad catalog of courses, students benefit from small classes, independent school rigor, global connections, and preparation for distance learning, which is increasingly utilized in college and beyond. Online learning also requires development of important skills, including self-discipline, communication, time management, and motivation.

Head of School Jarin Jaffee says, “Hybrid Learning Consortium is a tremendous opportunity for our students, a terrific professional development option for our faculty, and an important step forward for Day School. We appreciate Vectren Foundation’s support for this forward-thinking education initiative.”

Full-time middle and upper school students (grades 6-12) will have the opportunity to take up to 2 online courses per year. Different courses are available during the spring, summer, and fall semesters, including:

  • Chinese

  • Introduction to Computer Coding

  • Coral Reef Ecology

  • 2D Foundations: Introduction to Design, Drawing and Painting

  • Essentials of Film: Why We Dig Movies

  • Many Voices of the Middle East

  • Comparative Government & Politics AP
