As part of the International Speaker Series, Diana Rodríguez Quevedo spoke to primary school Spanish classes about her homeland of Colombia.  Dr. Quevedo was born in Bogotá, Colombia. Her family always spoke Spanish at home. When she was two years old her family moved to Montreal in Canada. It’s a very big city and there, people speak French, so when she started school she learned to read and write in French. The hockey team in Montreal had some great players then, so she used to watch hockey games with her older brother and she played street hockey too. When she was almost 10 years old, her family moved to another part of Canada; Toronto. That’s also a very big city and there most people speak English, so she had to learn English. When she was 15, her family moved back to Colombia, and they went to live in the mountains. People only spoke Spanish there, so she had to learn to read and write properly in Spanish.   Since she was a little girl, Diana has loved to read, ride a bike, swim, skip rope, and dance. She loves all kinds of music. She also loves to travel and meet new and different kinds of people.   She loves to teach and before becoming a university professor, she worked with children your age for many years. Her favorite part of the day with the children was sharing stories. Diana has two sisters, one brother and four nieces and nephews who live in Canada. Her mom still lives in the mountains in Colombia. She misses them a lot.
